As luck would have it - at the end of a very long 24 hours - my poor laptop finally gave out. Unfortunately it is about two months (before Black Friday) too early. So now I must rely on my PC at home and the one in my classroom. The latter of which is located in a terrible position - I must either move my desk close to the door (a big NO!) or have my back to the kids if I have to use it while they are in class (not a fan of this choice either.) So, if anyone hears of a laptop "what-a-deal" please let me know.
The 24 hours from "you know where" began on Thursday (I was just tired to begin with) afternoon when my 4th graders decided to push my buttons (somehow they found nearly all of them). I left school, after an unexpected faculty meeting (that will teach me to read the ENTIRE memo) in a hurry to get to my kids. My MIL had a meeting of her own to get to. We then proceeded to Wal-Mart (YEAH!) where my middle child thought it would be fun to hide from me among the produce. My husband assured me that we had hamburger meat at home, so I bought all the fixings to make tacos. I did remember to put gas in my van, so I guess that was a plus. But then I hit a bump on the way home and the gallon of milk I had just bought tipped over. I didn't really think anything of it, because it wasn't open and it was in bag (so I thought). When I got home and opened the door where the milk had been sitting, I was met with a lovely white puddle spilling out the side of the van and all over the top of, yes, you guessed it, my laptop case! I quickly (even before getting the sleeping baby from the car) got it out and wiped it off. I turned it on and all was well. :) NOT! But we will get to that later. Fast forward about 30 minutes to me looking into the freezer for the hamburger meat - NOT THERE!!! Plan B: breakfast supper (at least the kids will eat that). Finally able to sit down a couple hours later to grade a quiz I had given the day before to my 5th graders and needless to say after that I was ready to go to bed. I was not pleased with the grades at all!
Friday morning (has to be better right - it is Friday after all!) - actually got up a little bit early and was feeling good (hadn't thought about the quizzes yet.) Got everyone dressed, fed and out of the house a few minutes early and what do I discover now - a very low (not yet flat) tire. No problem - running early - gonna stop and take care of it! Dropped the oldest off at beforecare and proceed to the nearest air pump. I put my money in and get on with putting air in my tire - only after a few seconds I realize that air isn't going in - it's coming out! Now it really is flat (and I don't realize that there is anyone in the station - thought it was still closed), so I panic and call Randy. While on the phone with him, someone pulls up and goes inside - ok, so I'll go inside and find a solution.
Me: Your air machine is broken and now I have a flat tire.
Clerk: Oh no honey, we have to turn the air compressor off at night.
Me: (staring at her - dumb-founded, wondering why there isn't a sign on it).
Clerk: You want me to turn it on?
Me: yes, please, I have a flat tire.
Clerk: (yelling across the parking lot after she turns it on) It will take b/t 5 and 10 minutes to warm up!
So much for running early! Finally get the baby to daycare and take care of a few items, including telling the director to please call me if he bites someone again (happened earlier in the week). Go to school, get my stuff unpacked, try to turn on my computer and NOTHING!!!! So much for a "Fabulous Friday" Oh wait, I forgot to mention that about that time my phone beeps - it's the day care director - the baby has bitten his friend!
ALL THIS - AND IT'S NOT EVEN 8AM!!!!
Praying for a "Marvelous Monday"!
Hope you had a great weekend. Mine was good (other than lack of sleep and computer woes).
Once again - I forgot about the kids and their funny stuff. Thursday night, the highlight of the evening was watching my middle child (K5) practicing his letter blends for phonics. He did so well. He was proud and so was mommy. Following is the conversation we had after that.
Me: Is there a pep-rally tomorrow at school?
Him: Yep, but I get all hot and sweaty at the pep-rallies.
Me: (trying not to let him see me laugh) Oh really.
Him: I'm not crazy! I'm serious!
What else will that boy come up with!
Sandifer Stories (you know I got 'em)!

Crazy animals are taking over (and the kids are right behind)!
Ok, so the hermit crab died and then the dog is so gracious to bring his latest "prize" to the back door. (At least he stopped there.) What is going to happen next - b/c don't things happen in 3's? Just saying.
That brings me to my children! How off my rocker did I have to be to take all three of them to Toys R Us AND Wal-Mart on Monday? If I'd had another choice I would have chosen door #2. I am glad that I went to Toys R Us though - I found the baby's 2nd b-day present (never mind that his b-day isn't until April) 1/2 off the regular price. I also found my middle child a Christmas present - that I managed to hide the whole time we were shopping. As glad as I was about those things - I will NOT be making that mistake again for awhile!
Ok, the purpose of this blog was to help me "write down" the funny stuff my children do or say. My middle child is the one who always wants to go to McDonald's (or somewhere other than home). Yesterday, on the way home from picking them up from my mother-in-law's, I asked him what he would like for me to COOK (I stressed this word) for dinner. He (of course) said McDonald's. I told him that I was going to cook something. His reply was, "Well, you know if we went to a restaurant, it would already be cooked." (Where does he come up with this stuff?)
On another note - for you mothers that are reading - the doctor has said that the baby (16m) should be saying b/t 10 and 15 words. He only says one word (and it's not that clear). She wants to test his hearing and then, depending on the outcome, send him to speech therapy. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Just wondering.

Hermit Is Gone!
I had to deal with something today that I haven't had to deal with yet as a parent. The death of a pet. Now, thankfully it wasn't the dog we have had for ten years. It was however a beloved hermit crab named appropriately "Hermit The Crab". (My children are soooo original!) They didn't really understand what had happened and I just explained to them that Hermit came from the ocean and God didn't really mean for him to live on our kitchen counter in a plastic box.
I guess we will have a "funeral" sometime today.
I had written a whole bunch more than this, but the power went out and disconnected me before I could post and since I have slept since then, I have no idea what I was writing! (I guess that is one drawback to electronic journals vs. paper ones.) Oh well, if it was that important, I will remember later and my ADD self will come back and finish!
Enjoy your Labor Day Holiday with your family! I know I will!

I can't believe it's September!
Ok, so I've been thinking about starting a blog for awhile now and I finally just sat down and did it. That WAS the only way it was going to get done - I have three (four at the moment) kids after all. I did this mostly because I have been trying to keep a journal for years about cute stuff the kids say and funny stories and I have a ton of journals to write in, but I can never find the journal or a pen when I need one. Needless to say, one of our three computers is always on - so I figure I have a better shot at this than the paper kind.
Any blogger friends out there that have tips for keeping this up to date - I am all ears (no really, they are huge, just like my grand-father's and my mother's). That would be the second reason I need to do this - I must have an outlet for my dry (and witty) humor. Nobody around here gets it. Hopefully someone will read this and appreciate it.
To tell a little about myself - I am a married, mother of three (as I said before). I am a 4th/5th grade Language Arts teacher at a small Christian school. I love my kids (both at school and home) and my job (new this year).
So, there is my first post. Not much to tell today - the funny stuff didn't come from my children today - it came from the extra one I have at the moment. I will share that with his mother and then it can be her story.
Hope you'll come back and read more!
Oh yes, the title - I can't believe it's September! I really can't! School just started and already my students are talking about Thanksgiving! And so help me if the people at Wal-Mart keep putting out the Christmas stuff early - they are going to eventually not have to take it down - they will just leave it up all year round! I am sooooo looking forward to Black Friday though!
